Briquetting and Pelletizing

Turning waste biomass into briquettes and pellets

For the improvement of energy efficiency, transport, and storage of the biomass is necessary to compress wood waste - sawdust, others, forest residues, wood ground or wastes, agricultural crop residues such as peanut shells, rice husk, hay braquiaria, corn husk, peel of coffee and other forms of organic wastes and lignocellulosic.

During the process of briquetting are generated mechanically under high pressure (200 MPa), which lead to an increase thermal of the order of 100 to 150ºC. This temperature originates the plasticizing of the lignin (*), which acts as an element of the binder of the particles of wood, and it is not necessary, therefore, the addition of products binders (resins, waxes).

For the sintering process is necessary the presence of a quantity of water of between 8% and 15% B. H. on the maximum size of the particle is of the order of 0.5 to 1cm.

When you have waste with these characteristics, the manufacture of the briquettes becomes very economical (40-60 KWh/t). If it is necessary to dry or grind the waste previously, the costs increase considerably.

Turning waste biomass into briquettes and pellets

Briquetting and pelletizing are processes of densification on energy of biomass. Are processes to transform waste into solid fuel. The Principle of the process of briquetting is the same of the pelletizing plant, the plasticizing of the lignin.

The size of the pellets varies between 6 mm and 16 mm, while briquette has an inner diameter of 50 mm. The pelleting is an extrusion process is more demanding that the briquetting. The presses are more demanding and more ive with waste.

All residue of plant origin can be compressed by briquetting or pelletizing, and simply meet the needs of particle size, lignin and moisture content required by the process.

There are several technologies for compression of the lignocellulosic residues:

Extruder piston or mechanical press in the piston / crankshaft mechanical (shape briquettes) Extruders, hydraulic piston, or press briquetadeira hydraulic (briquettes) Extruder screw without end or press briquetadeira screw or bolt ( briquettes ) Peletizadoras ( pelletes ) or pellets.

Briquetting of charcoal

The operation of briquetting of charcoal consists in the agglomeration of the materials of fine grain size, with the goal of obtaining the product of the largest dimensions through the employment of the ligands, which may be organic or mineral.

This process allows to obtain briquettes of charcoal high-quality with best efficiency and utilization of the fractions thin, descartes operations classification particle size of the coal.

Among the processes of briquetting of charcoal exist, for domestic use binders type film, such as starch and molasses, and is designed for the product obtained by heating and barbecues, and for industrial applications uses ligands with the matrix type, such as asphalt and tar.

In both cases, the care bestowed in the preparation of the fine coal plant are limited to cuts granulométricos, crush or grinding to reduce the size of the particles, the beneficiamentos for the reduction of impurities or, applicable, the adjustments of the moisture content.

Through the process of briquetting the charcoal, that is, a technique that involves balancing granulométrico, mixing proportional of binder, compaction and drying, it is possible to obtain a product with better density, greater mechanical strength, low generation of fines and particle size uniform, eliminating some of the drawbacks of coal as to the handling, transportation, storage, and use.

City Hall Acquires New Scorpion 500 Branch Crusher

City Hall Acquires New Branch Crusher A few days ago, the municipality of Paraná received another important piece of equipment that will guarantee more efficiency in the services of crushing branches resulting from tree pruning. The city hall already had smaller equipment, which was used by the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Policy, mainly at the Ecoponto. This equipment will now be destined for the Department of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, to be used to remove branches from the
